My brother-in-law brought these to a family trip, and I ate a few too many. Yes, it was that good! After trying them, I found out they are a super popular recipe back in 2024. They are absolutely delicious.

These viral date Snickers are the perfect sweet treat when you want something delicious with just four ingredients. We start by flattening soft Medjool dates into a solid layer, then spread creamy peanut butter right over the top. A warm layer of melted chocolate goes on next, finished with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt and crunchy chopped peanuts.

Pop it in the fridge to set, slice it into squares, and enjoy a much better twist on your favorite candy bar. It’s that easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Medjool dates (pitted)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (room temperature works best)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped peanuts (or pistachios)
  • Flaky sea salt or kosher salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

Prep the dates

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pit the dates if they are not already pitted. Open them up and arrange them with the sticky side facing up, side by side in a rough rectangular shape.

Flatten the base

Cover the dates with plastic wrap. Use a rolling pin to flatten them out. Keep rolling and pushing until you do not see any more spaces between the dates. Wedge any gaps together to form a solid layer.

Add the peanut butter

Peel back the plastic wrap and spread your creamy peanut butter over the top. Having it at room temperature makes it easier to spread. Just get it all the way to the edges.

Melt the chocolate

Microwave the chocolate chips for 60 to 90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds until fully melted. Pour the warm chocolate over the peanut butter layer and spread it evenly with an offset spatula or spoon.

Add the toppings

Sprinkle on some flaky sea salt for a nice salty contrast. Next, sprinkle the coarsely chopped peanuts generously over the chocolate while it is still melted. Lightly press them down to help them stick.

Chill and slice

Refrigerate uncovered until the chocolate is firm, about an hour (or freeze for 30 minutes). Once firm, slice into bars or squares. Putting the dates dry side down keeps them from being sticky when you hold them!

Storage

This is a totally make-ahead treat. Once it has firmed up, cover it with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for a few days.

If you let them sit at room temperature for a little bit before eating, the chocolate will stay hard, but the peanut butter gets a little more creamy, which is wonderful.

Why You Will Like It

Candy Bar Vibes

It totally tastes similar to a Snickers, but it is a much better option for your body.

Better Blood Sugar

Dates do not spike your blood sugar the same way processed candy does.

Great Texture

The crunchy peanuts add a really good texture to the creamy peanut butter and soft dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use pistachios instead of peanuts?+

Yes, absolutely! Pistachios work beautifully and give it a fun green color and a different flavor profile.

Can I use different nut butters?+

You can really change this up. Almond butter or cashew butter would both be delicious alternatives.

Should I use milk chocolate or semi-sweet?+

Both are good! Milk chocolate makes it taste a little closer to a traditional Snickers bar, while semi-sweet is a little less naughty. Choose your favorite.

What else can I call this?+

Many people call it date bark, which makes sense since it is basically bark made with dates. Call it whatever you want!

Date Snickers

If you are going to have candy, this is going to be it. You can eat a couple of these and still feel good about yourself, which I cannot say for a regular candy bar.

These are so good, and I hope you give them a try. Let me know if you experiment with anything different on these. Enjoy your treats!
